Description | Every ten years, when the world famous Passion Play is performed by some 1,000 of Oberammergau's 5,000 inhabitants, this typical alpine village is transformed into an international attraction. The play has been performed since 1634 as a tribute to the town's having been spared from the Black Plague. Other reasons for venturing to Oberammergau is its natural beauty and numerous hiking paths into the surrounding Alps. |
