Excursions From Cuernavaca

Xochicalco Archeological Sites

25 miles south of Cuernavaca lies Xochicalco, which means "House of Flowers" in Nahuatl. Something of an architectural anomaly, examples of different Pre-Columbian cultures (including Mayan!) have kept both experts and visitors enthralled. Pyramid of the Plumed Serpent, Ball Court and a cluster of caves that served as observatories are a few of the highlights.

Tepotzlan

20 miles from Cuernavaca. A fascinating, small mountain village where Nahuatl Indian customs are as alive as they were before the Spanish Conquest. Supposedly the birthplace of Quetzalcoatl, the Aztec God so often depicted as a serpent. Tepotzlan villagers continue to venerate other ancient Gods and the festivals are a fascinating time to visit.
