| As Veracruz was the
first city founded by the Spaniards, its Plaza is
the oldest and perhaps the liveliest in Mexico.
Outside the arcaded cafes and restaurants,Marimba
and Mariachi bands play nonstop daily from early
afternoon till late. |

| Built primarily as
protection against marauding pirates, this massive
fort later served as a prison for criminals and

| Waterfront boulevard
that runs along Veracruz Harbor. Tours are available
and with any luck the Santa Maria, a blueprint replica
of Columbus' 15th century galleon will be at its
mooring and available for daily tours. |

with numerous freshwater and saltwater tanks, including
a gigantic pool right on the ocean. Includes Marine

Veracruz is also a seaside resort city with several
beaches nearby. Villa del Mar Beach has a lovely
palm-lined promenade. Located in the southern end
