Sporting Life in Los Cabos

Deep-Sea Fishing

This is what initially put Los Cabos on the map for the rest of the world. Where the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez meet is the habitat for more than 800 species of fish. Many hotels have their own fleets, some quite luxurious with matching prices. Excursions can be made through them. Otherwise, the marina in Cabos San Lucas is home to a large fleet. For groups of up to three, a Panga 22 foot skiff can be rented at Palmilla Pangas (114/2-0582), Pisces Sportfishing Fleet (114/3-1288, Cabo Charters (114/3-0992) and the Solmar Fleet (114/3-0022. Be aware that the "Catch and Release Program" is practiced.

Diving and Snorkeling

A dramatic coastline and a prime fish habitat makes for excellent diving excursions. El Arco, Pulmo Reef, the shipwreck outside of Cabo San Lucas as well as the numerous beaches are favorite spots. The Solmar 5 (114/3-0022) is a fully-outfitted, world class dive boat with 12 state rooms used for longer trips. For daily equipment and instruction, contact Tio Watersports (114/3-1000), Amigos del Mar (114/3-05-05) or the Hotel Palmilla Dive Center (114/2-0582).

Sailing

The well-organized Los Cabos Hotel Association, to which most hotels belong, guarantees the area's hotel guests a wonderful array of equipment and instruction. Otherwise the Pisces Watersport Center (114/3-12-88) offers everything from windsurfing to catamarans. The popular sunset cruises are enjoyed on catamaran Pez Gato (114/3-0408). Numerous glass bottom boats leave from the Cabo San Lucas marina. They provide tours of the entire Los Cabos area with El Arco (and a drop off at Lover's Beach) the high point of the trip.

Horseback Riding

With miles of uninterrupted stretches of quiet beaches and landmarks, horseback riding along the beach is very popular. Contact Marco's Horse Rentals (114/3-0123), Finisterra Hotel Stables (114/3-000) and Hotel Palmilla (114/2-0582).

Golf

Golf has exploded in Los Cabos with championship courses designed by the very best. The Robert Trent Jones II designed Cabo Real Golf Resort at the Melia Cabo Real Hotel (114/30999) is creating a major worldwide stir. The original Jack Nicklaus designed course at the Hotel Palmilla is the center piece of an ever expanding breathtaking complex. The Club Campo de Golf Los Cabos (114/2-0905) has just completed its second nine holes with spectacular views of Land's End. Needless to say, more courses, public and private, are in various stages of development.
