Sporting Life in Cancun

Scuba Diving & Snorkeling
The combination of the Caribbean Sea, some 500 species of fish and a dramatic variety of underwater formations makes Cancun a world-wide favorite for these sports. The waters off Punta Cancun, the northern point of the hotel zone, and those off of Punta Nizuc, the southern most point, have excellent visibility and variety. Cuevones Reef and the waters off Tortuga Beach are also popular. Fishing
From March through September, there are many combination of fish in season including marlin, sailfish and barracuda. There is a large choice of charters. Many include captain, first mate, equipment, bait and restorative beverages. Sailing
For a romantic dinner(lobster/steak), dancing and the beauty close-up of the open sea, the 62 foot Columbus departs from the Royal Mayan Yacht Club (Ph: 98/831488). Expocancun (Ph: 98/848092) offers a beach party on Isla Mujeres, the round trip enjoyed on a 100 foot catamaran.

Golf
The Pok-A-Tok Golf Club (Ph: 98/830871) has an 18 hole course designed by the incomparable Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Ideally situated between lagoon and sea, the layout also incorporates Mayan ruins. The huge Melia Cancun (Ph: 98/851160) offers an 18 hole course, more courses are under development.

Windsurfing
Opportunities for "Boardsailing" are enjoyed by beginners and professional competitors alike. July is the month for the National Windsurfing Tournament (Ph: 98/843212). Playa Tortugas is the center for most board activity and the International Windsurfer Sailing School (Ph: 98/842023) offers both equipment and instruction.

Jogging
Mexican beaches and oceanfront streets are often the training routes of numerous long distance runners, usually out early in the morning before the heat sets in. Stretching between Cancun City and Punta Cancun is a nine mile running path. 

Tennis
Numerous hotels have courts, many with night time lighting.
