Diving and Snorkeling
|
|
| Many divers and snorkelers opt to
explore the exotic underwater sites, including coral reefs, just
off Manzanillo's shore. Susan Dearing based at the Hotel La Posada
offers both certification and dives. (Ph: 333/3-1899).

| Manzanillo has the prestigious acclaim
as the World Capital of Sailfish. An international Sailfish tournament
is held every November, while the season itself last from November
to March. Marlin, dolphinfish, dorado, wahoo and roosterfish are
other sport fishing catches, in season at various times of the year.
Travel agencies are usually the best bet for boat reservations but
a trip to the Fishermen's Cooperative (Ph: 333/2-1031) at
the downtown pier is an experience in itself. For parties of 4-7
try Gerardo Montes (Ph: 333/2-0817) who owns the 28 foot
Albatros I and 38 foot Albatros I. |

| The course that put Manzanillo on
the international golf map was La Mantarraya at Las Hadas
(Ph: 333/30000). Designed by Pete and Roy Day, it is lush, scenic
, with the dramatic 19th hole on an island in the bay. For a satisfying
9 holes designed by Larry Hughes and surrounded by palms, try the
Club Santiago Course (Ph: 333/5-04-10. A spectacular new
edition to the area is less than an hour away, Isla Navidad Golf
Course (Ph: 36/418283). Designed by Robert Von Hagge, the attractive
27 holes are strung along beachfront dunes, reminiscent of Scottish
links. |

|
| Like so much in Manzanillo, tennis
is concentrated at the various hotels. Guests have first priority,
but it is certainly worth it to inquire about available courts.
Club Maeva (Ph: 333/0141) has 12 courts, Las Hadas
has (Ph: 333/42-000), the Radisson Plaza Sierra (Ph: 333/3-20-00)
has 4 courts. |
